Relax Responsibly

Tips for Enjoying Alcohol or Marijuana While Golfing

1. Set the Intent: Chill vs. Compete

  • Decide before the round:

Is this a laid-back vibe round? Or do I still want to shoot my number?

That choice will guide how much (and what) you indulge in.

Mulligan Mentality Insight:

You can be relaxed and competitive—but not sloppy and successful.

2. For Alcohol: Pace > Proof

  • Stick to 1 drink per 6 holes to keep your tempo—not ruin it.

  • Go lighter on ABV: seltzers, beer, or session cocktails over heavy liquors.

  • Hydrate 2:1 – two waters for every drink.

  • Avoid starting too early (especially if putting matters to you).

Too much alcohol kills depth perception and swing tempo. Golf is hard enough sober.

3. For Marijuana: Know Your Strain and Dosage

Low-THC, high-functioning sativa or balanced hybrids are best.

  • Avoid couch-locking indicas on the front 9.

Microdose: A small edible or 1–2 hits keeps you in that smooth, calm zone without losing motor control.

  • Start slow. Edibles can hit hard 1–2 holes later.

A light mental buzz can slow overthinking, but too much and you forget your score or your club.

4. Time It Right

Front 9: Stay sharp. Warm up your game first.

Back 9: That’s the better time to coast and sip or spark up—especially if you’ve got good rhythm going.

Golf’s a feel sport. You want your senses dialed in, not numbed out.

5. Respect the Group and the Course

  • Don’t pressure anyone else to indulge.

  • Keep things discreet, especially at private clubs or with strangers.

  • No over-the-top antics. Mulligan Mentality = chill, not careless.

  • Obey all local laws and codes. A relax round is the goal, not jail.

    Golf’s a gentleman’s (and gentlewoman’s) game—even when you’re lit.

Mulligan Mentality Guideline:

Relax responsibly. A clear, calm head swings smoother, scores lower, and enjoys more.
